Suantou Sugar Factory is located in Liujiao Township, Chiayi County, adjacent to the HSR Chiayi Station and the Southern Branch of National Palace Museum. To achieve the goal for “"balanced north-south – equal cultural prosperity" to boost the cultural, educational, social, and economic development of the central and southern Taiwan, TSC cooperates with the policy to implement the Sugar Train Extension Project to HSR Chiayi Station and the Southern Branch of National Palace Museum, which is the first tourism railway construction of the “connection of the fastest and slowest trains”. The length of the newly extended route is about 1.41 km, and a Sugar Train Station will be set up near No. 3 Exit of the Chiayi HSR Station. In addition, a new platform will be added to the original operating route (LOHAS Farm Station). The construction project was completed in August, 2022, and the operation started on October 8. It is hoped that the development of the tourism, cultural and education as well as leisure industries can be combined, and various functions can be connected through the traffic transportation so as to form a key tourism industry belt in Chiayi.

          After arriving at HSR Chiayi Station, tourists can walk to the Chiayi Sugar Train HSR Station to take the sugar train at the speed of about 10km/hr to the Suantou Zhecheng Cultural Park in the Suantou Sugar Factory. Along this guided tour, the guide will give introduction of the history of the sugar railway and sugar industry culture as well as their connection with the local areas while visitors can enjoy the field scenery of the Chianan Plain. When arriving at the Suantou Sugar Factory, visitors can visit the recently restored century-old train station- Suantou Sugar Factory Sugar Train Station.

          This route operates from 10 am to 2 pm every day, even on holidays departing from Suantou Sugar Factory; sugar trains departs from HSR Chiayi Station at 11 am and 3 pm, and after the retro train cars are built and put into operation in October, 2023, the route can be further extended to the Southern Branch of National Palace Museum, connecting the “point, line, and surface” in terms of culture and time, creating a historical and cultural corridor to boost the overall development of the local tourism industry.
