Xihu Sugar Refinery

Xihu Sugar Refinery was originally named “Xihu Sugar Factory” and was renamed with its current name after Taiwan Sugar Corporation was founded in 1946.

After sugar manufacturing business ended in 2002, the place was preserved and reused as a tourism and recreation attraction combining the history of sugar manufacturing and cultural heritage and was listed by the Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Cultural Affairs in 2006 as the regeneration point of the “Industrial Culture Heritage Regeneration Project.”

The refinery has well-preserved industrial heritage on sugar manufacturing, including sugar manufacturing refinery, wooden sugar railway stations, 346 Japanese steam locomotive, and Japanese-style dormitory buildings. Facilities such as BBQ area, ecological pond, family grassland and cherry blossom wood were also added, making it a household attraction combining the history and culture of the sugar industry with tourism and recreation in central Taiwan.
