New force joining in summer power supply, TSC Qigu solar farm to inject 300M kWh into green energy

2021-07-01

TSC, in accordance with government policy, has been actively promoting green energy. TSC conducted land resource inventory to select 189 hectares of non-arable land in Qigu Dist. in Tainan for solar energy development. The Qigu solar farm has a total installed capacity of 181MW and will extend to 216 MW by the end of the year. It is expected the Qigu solar plant generates 300 million kWh electricity annually, equivalent to at least 83,000 households use each year, to assist the increasing demand of electricity in Taiwan.

"The land of the Qigu solar plant is originally in the subsidence and saline area. It is unsuitable neither for sugarcane planting nor crops farming," TSC pointed out. Thus, TSC utilized this area to develop a solar power plant and completed tender procedures in 2019. Chung-Hsin Electric and Machinery Manufacturing Corp. (CHEM) is the winning bidder and is in charge for installing solar power systems. It is the TSC's first solar plant on non-arable land so far, and it is hoped the Qigu solar plant sets a new benchmark for other similar non-arable land.

TSC sincerely appreciates all the support and assistance. After the processes of alteration of land, application of electricity generating and construction permits, the Qigu solar plant finally completed and fed electricity into the power grid on June 30. The capacity totals 181 MW, and another 35MW is ready to be connected to the grid by the end of this year. By the time the Qigu solar plant will provide total 300 million kWh electricity annually, equivalent to at least 83,000 households use each year. The Qigu plant is the biggest solar power farm in Taiwan so far, and it is expected to decrease 150,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, generating same benefits as 15,000 hectares of afforestation.

"Summer is the peak season for electricity use in Taiwan," TSC points out, adding that the Qigu solar plant helps stabilize the power supply. Enjoying air conditioning in hot summer and playing on cellphones with adequate power brings pure happiness and satisfaction which just needs clean, sustainable, and safe energy like solar power.
