Taiwan Sugar Corporation (TSC) made the first in Taiwan to produce TAP (Traceable Agriculture Product) certified Taiwan Golden Sugar. The company and AFA jointly held a new product launch press conference today. TSC's president Wang Kuo-his, COA Minister Chen Chi-chung, and other honorable guests attended the event to witness a new epoch in the domestic sugar industry.
"TSC is an agriculture-based company and has long been devoted to eco-friendly farming and sustainable agricultural development," said TSC, adding that in response to growing concerns about food safety, the company cooperated with AFA to promote the TAP certification for the Taiwan Golden Sugar. The sugar product was finally certified as the first traceable sugar (TAP) in Taiwan. Sugar is one of TSC's iconic products, and getting TAP gives recognition to its efforts on food safety and traceability management. The certification also shows the firm's dedication to enhancing product differentiation and brand value.
TSC started the certification process in September last year. After 3,885 acres of self-managed and contract farms had been certified, the company appointed APACC of National Chung Hsing University to inspect food safety, sanitation, and environmental sustainability. With the help from COA, the certification was granted for the plant's raw sugar cane and its processed product, laying out the fundamentals for the TAP.
"The variety of the raw sugarcane is characterized by its high sugar content, high resistance to diseases and pests, strong ratooning, and fast germination rate," TSC emphasized. The sugarcane is planted in pure and pollution-free land, and cultivated in more eco-friendly farming methods of minimizing chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The production, processing and packaging also follow TGAP requirements.
