Taitung Sugar Factory Cultural and Creative Park

Description

Taitung Sugar Factory was founded in 1913 and is the largest remaining industrial heritage in Taitung County. It was registered by Taitung County Government as historical architecture in 2004.

After Taitung Sugar Factory ceased to operate in 1996, there were aggressive measures on activating and reusing the factory with its historical and cultural potential and it was later transformed into Taitung Sugar Factory Cultural and Creative Park.Starting from 2006, Taitung Sugar Factory has received subsidy from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and has constantly renovated, activated and reused its historical buildings year by year. For example, the crane and sugar cane storage was renovated into an outdoor stage, and industrial landscape iron sculpture installation art works have been added.

When walking in the factory, visitors can feel the abundant artistic atmosphere of the industrial landscape. In addition, it has collaborated with the local cultural creative industry and artist & cultural features by attracting local artists, cultural creative recreation industry, and catering industry practitioners to enter the factory, including wood craft studio, studio on traditional aboriginal crafts, cafe, recreational restaurant, weaving studio, pottery classroom and bicycle rental shops. Visitors can explore local aboriginal hand crafts and experience the culture of the sugar industry.
