To promote transformation to net-zero buildings, Ministry of the Interior took the lead in Asia in organizing the first Low Embodied-carbon Building Rating System (LEBR) Certification Ceremony in 2024, encouraging the industry to reduce the use of main structural materials such as beams, columns, slabs, and walls through design planning at the beginning of construction, and use low-carbon construction methods to minimize embodied carbon from the source. Among them, Taiwan Sugar Corporation's "Shalun Smart Green Energy Circular Residential Park" has the industry's highest 29% carbon reduction rate, and has obtained certificate of Level 1+ of the Low Embodied-carbon Building Rating System (LEBR) and Low-carbon Building Candidate Certificate, making TSC a leader in the practice of sustainable green buildings in our country.

　　The choice of building materials and construction methods is key to reducing embodied carbon in architecture. TSC started the construction of the Shalun Smart Green Energy Circular Residential Park in 2019, and it adopted precast construction method to precast steel beams, columns, external walls, and floor slabs. Not only is the housing provided on a rental basis, but components such as elevators, lighting, bathroom fixtures, air conditioning, smart locks, household appliances, furniture, and food waste systems are also managed through a “leasing instead of purchasing” model- promoting the circular economy principle of access over ownership.
