Taiwan Sugar Corporation started out as a traditional sugar company in 1946. With the tides of time, TSC has gradually transformed into a diversified conglomerate, shouldering the economic benefits as a state-owned entity and also bearing a more far-reaching significance of environmental and social sustainability.
One of the major missions we have been committed to for a long time is the national prosperity and public benefit, and the sustainable progress of both. However, due to the intensified geopolitical tensions and the continuous invasion of extreme weather, the path of strategic thinking can no longer avoid confronting the issue of international concern, carbon emissions, and also the conclusions of the COP29 regarding global carbon trading markets and investment in clean energy. While aligning with global developments, TSC will also integrate existing agricultural technologies and land resources to enhance public welfare, make them accessible to the people, and ensure the beautiful vision of sustainability.
With a Proactive Mindset and a Resolute Commitment to Action
TSC has set its goals and vision clear, and it is the specific actions that make a difference. Therefore, in terms of carbon reduction to work toward net zero emissions, we have carried out replacement of lighting, air conditioning, boilers, and other process equipment and introduced ECSO. In addition, we also collaborate with external parties to conduct carbon capture tests in the flue gas ducts of the sugar factory as well as the research on soil carbon sinks and forest carbon sinks for the reduction of our carbon emissions. We also continue the promotion of renewable energy facilities to support the policy of net zero emissions. It is expected that by the year 2025, a total of 106 charging guns will be installed in all TSC locations, and that the capacity of the self-installed solar PV system will reach 864.24MW by 2027.
In terms of the trend of green products, we are committed to advancing product development toward natural and simplified formulations, upgrading and developing more eco-friendly and healthy products, including the Beauty Collagen Jelly that won the Prestigious Award for Excellence in Aquaculture and Products. Meanwhile, TSC continues to make progress in the field of food safety, regarding food safety as the company’s belief and mission, safeguarding consumers’ health comprehensively from the source to the product.
Investing More for the Fulfilment of Our Social Responsibility
The other side of the Company’s sustainability scale is to take more social responsibility. TSC has long been dedicated to circular economy and advocated the concept of net zero emissions. In recent years, projects such as the Shalun Smart Green Energy Circular Residential Park, Taisugar Chongxian Circular Intergenerational Co-housing Residential Building, and others have been constructed one after another, allowing the middle class and the elderly to have safe and secure housing. From 2016 to the end of 2024, a total of 46 sites with an overall area of 26.16 hectares have been provided for the assessment by the Ministry of Health and Welfare to construct residential long-term care institutions, and 6 sites with a total of 4.49 hectares in area have been identified by the Ministry of Health and Welfare for the continuous support for the government's long-term care policy. In addition, as of 2024, TSC has provided 82 sites with a total area or 91.58 hectares for the government to make assessment of the construction of social housing, and 44 sites with a total area of 44.20 hectares have been identified by the Ministry of Interior. There are also 6 sites of social housing transformed from TSC’s self-owned student dormitories, which can be designated for the development of planned land and dormitories constructions, contributing to a total of 24,392 households.
In addition, TSC has also actively engaged in environmental education and social participation. In addition to hosting the Taisugar Charity Run for nine consecutive times, we also call on the public to reach out to the disadvantaged groups in Taiwan, demonstrating the value of corporate service to society. Starting from 2017, we have also been importing coffee beans from our allied nations in Central and Southern America, and used part of the income to build schools in local remote areas. The fourth school we assisted in building was commenced in November, 2024, in Guatemala providing education for children aged between 6 and 12. The construction of the new school building will significantly improve the learning and teaching environment for the students and the teachers, bringing opportunities for children to change their future.

In addition to agricultural technology and land resources, TSC also boast its profound centennial heritage of the sugar culture. The sugar factory serves as a historical witness to Taiwan’s industrial development, and the sweet and rich heritage as well as the overflowing and fragrant sugar products have long been circulated in the sugar industry cultural tourism. Month after month, filmmakers are drawn to this place to shoot on location here. Their productions have strengthened ties to the local culture while portraying a chapter of harmony between people and the environment.
