Danongdafu (Masadi) Forest Park in Hualien

The park is located in Guangfu Township, Hualien County, in the Huadong Rift Valley between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range. It is within the jurisdiction of TSC’s MASADIFOREST. Since 2002, in cooperation with the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, Council of Agriculture, to promote the Landscape Afforestation and Greening of the Flatland Project, more than 1.65 million saplings have been planted on an area of about 1,200 hectares in the park area. With the success of afforestation and tending, FANCA started the overall planning and design of the MASADIFOREST in 2009, and has successively carried out the construction, repair and maintenance of facilities. The park has rich natural ecology and beautiful scenery in four seasons, and it breeds more than a hundred of animals and insects. Under the dedicated management of TSC Huatung Operation Branch and FANCA, the park has become Taiwan’s first flatland forest park. Every spring, fireflies, a species requiring the cleanest and pollution-free environment, are seen everywhere in the park, making viewing fireflies at night one of the most popular activities of visitors in recent years.

Linhousilin Forest Park in Pingtung

Linhousilin Forest Park was selected as one of the three international level large-scare forest parks in Taiwan in 2009 by the Ministry of Agriculture. Located on the western side of the Dawu Mountain foothills, along the right bank of the Linbian River, the majority of the land belongs to TSC’s Linhou, Silin, and Nan’an Farms. Since 2002, in alignment with the Company's policy to close sugarcane mills and the government’s promotion of flatland afforestation policy, large-scale afforestation in the park started, with an area of about 700 hectares. The main tree species planted include Soap nut tree, Evergreen Ash, Comphor Tree, Taiwan Zelkova, Beadtree, Mahogany, etc. These efforts fully showcase Taiwan's ecological diversity, providing the public with high-quality green recreational spaces, opportunities for environmental education, and a glimpse into the multifaceted forest ecosystems.

Pheasant-tailed Jacana Ecological Education Park in Guantien

In 1980, due to the development of Taiwan’s highspeed railway, the route planned happened to pass through this important habitat of pheasant-tailed jacana, Hulupi in Guantian Township. After coordination, Tainan City Government rented TSC’s property at Guantian District to establish the Pheasant-tailed Jacana Ecological Education Park in Guantian for the implementation of the breeding plan, creating a pond-based breeding area for pheasant-tailed jacana. The Jacana Ecological Education Park in Guantian has been established for the implementation of the breeding plan to conduct the habitat restoration by planting water chestnut, lotus, prickly water lily, water lily and other plants.

On December 3, 2023, the annual "Jacana Census" in Tainan was conducted at the Guantian Pheasant-tailed Jacana Ecological Education Park. A total of 102 volunteers were mobilized to survey 52 sampling areas for pheasant-tailed jacana populations. The survey recorded a total of 2,882 pheasant-tailed jacanas, showing an increase of 279 compared to the previous year. These wetlands possess biodiversity, ecological functions, and scientific research value. Various species of waterfowl, insects, terrestrial plants, mammals, birds (including rare and valuable wild animals such as the Black Kite, Water Pheasant, and Oriole, as well as wildlife requiring conservation such as the Red-tailed Shrike), reptiles, amphibians, dragonflies, fish, and other vertebrates, benthic organisms, plankton, attached algae, and planktonic animals coexist and thrive here.

Habitat rehabilitation for Unicorn beetles and fireflies in Jianshanpi

Jianshanpi Reservoir is located in Liuying District, Tainan City. It was originally used to provide water for the sugar refining in Xinying Sugar Factory. Due to the closure of the sugar factory, it was transformed into tourist attractions for recreational purposes, and a resort was established in 2003. The resort has rich natural landscapes of shallow mountains and pond water resources. It obtained the certification of environmental education facility in 2017. Inside the resort, an ecological restoration habitat for Unicorn beetles and fireflies is planned. The resort adopts eco-friendly management and does not spray pesticides. Every June, hundreds of adult Unicorn beetles can be seen and faint glows of fireflies can be observed at night between July and September. In addition to the endemic Pyrocoelia analis, efforts are currently underway to rehabilitate the Aquatica ficta. In addition, natural circulation and artificial management methods are applied in the park. Inside the resort park, animal-friendly facilities, such as animal nest boxes, insect hotels, and earthworm towers are installed to provide more diverse ecological environment within the park.
