In early 2025,
Associate Professor Chien-Hao Chen of National Kaohsiung University of
Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT) achieved an unprecedented Grand-Gold award at
the world's oldest spirits competition for two kinds of Rhum Agricole brewed
using sugarcane from Taiwan Sugar Corporation. This achievement reinforced the
new vision of TSC and NKUHT to collaborate on innovative and value-added
applications of local ingredients to jointly promote Taiwan's terroir and food
culture. Therefore, the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU)
in May to continuously inject new energy into agricultural upgrading and
culinary innovation.
TSC currently
plans to first supply 6 tons of sugarcane juice from Huwei Sugar Refinery,
which will be delivered fresh directly to the winery in Taichung. The winery
will then be handed over to Associate Professor Chen's professional team to
brew Rhum Agricole for mass production and market launch. This will realize the
vision of a 200-fold increase in the value created from every milliliter of
sugarcane juice, thereby paving the way for the progressive upgrading and
transformation of the sugarcane industry.
In addition, we have signed
cooperation agreements with National Chiayi University, Ling Tung University,
and the National Central Library, aiming to leverage complementary strengthens
and achieve a "1+1>2" synergistic effect through collaboration
across diverse areas, expand the depth and breadth of state-owned enterprise
operations, jointly explore new opportunities for industries, and work closely
with academia to cultivate professional talents and promote the overall competitiveness
of Taiwan's industries.
