Paraguay is
Taiwan's only diplomatic ally in South America, Since the establishment of
diplomatic ties in 1957, Taiwan and Paraguay enjoy a deep friendship. TSC works
in line with the government's foreign policy and fulfills its responsibilities
as a state-owned enterprise, utilizes its Agriculture Business Division 's
expertise in orchid cultivation and agricultural management to assist in
promoting the development of the Phalaenopsis orchid industry in Paraguay,
thereby deepening bilateral agricultural technology exchange and cooperation.
Since its
participation in 2019 in the International Cooperation and Development
Foundation (ICDF)'s Paraguay Orchid Commercial Production Guidance Program, We
assisted local people to establish a Phalaenopsis production and sales model,
cultivating professional talent, and introducing cultivation techniques to the
local area. During the project, TSC dispatched technical consultants to
Paraguay to provide on-site guidance and assistance to the Paraguayan flower
company (Floricultura del Paraguay S.A.), and the construction and operation of
its greenhouse was completed in 2022. We also supported marketing and sales
activities, successfully introducing Phalaenopsis to the local market and
creating new opportunities for the agricultural economy.
In 2024, TSC
arranged for technicians from a Paraguayan flower company to come to Taiwan for
a 24-day internship, learning greenhouse environment control, water quality
management, fertilizer application, pest and disease control, and other
technologies, strengthening local orchid cultivation capabilities. In May of
the same year, the Ambassador of the Republic of Paraguay to the Republic of
China (Taiwan) and the Minister of Industry and Commerce visited Taiwan Sugar
Corporation. Both parties established a liaison contact and continuously
evaluate future cooperation opportunities.
In 2025, TSC
continued to support the production and sales of Phalaenopsis in Paraguay, and
there was a supply shortage for local products. The technical team also
participated in the Innovar Feria Agropecuaria (Expo INNOVAR), the Orchid
Lecture in Ciudad del Este, and the Expo Pioneros, showcasing the project's
achievements and promoting Taiwanese orchid technology. These activities
attracted Paraguayans, Taiwanese expatriates, and international friends,
demonstrating the success of Taiwan's agricultural technology export and
continuing the friendly cooperation between Taiwan and Paraguay.
